Winterizing

With decades of experience servicing lawn sprinkler systems, multiple service crews, and maintaining over 3000 New Jersey residential and commercial properties, we provide the absolute must lawn sprinkler winterize service to ensure your lawn sprinkler system is properly shutdown to prevent freeze damage during the cold winter

How We Can Help?

All sprinkler systems need to be closed (winterized) starting as early as the last week of September. In order to prevent freeze damage to your lawn sprinkler system, Dowd Irrigation provides Winterize service. The Winterize service or a “sprinkler blow out” service is a process of completely drying up of your sprinkler system by removing all water content.

Simply turning off the water valve is not sufficient as water droplets that remain in the sprinkler system will eventually freeze and burst pipes and damage sprinkler heads when freezing temperatures arrive. This happens because water expands when it reaches sub-zero temperatures or freezes.

Working Process

A service crew from Dowd Irrigation will winterize your lawn sprinkler system by using a powerful air compressor to push all the water out ensuring no water remains in the system through the winter. Unlike some contractors, we use a commercial-grade air compressor to do a sprinkler blow out.
We also ensure that the correct pressure settings are set so that there is no damage to the lawn sprinkler system during the procedure.

Steps

01

Shut Off the Water

Turn off the main water valve near the meter so no new water enters the irrigation lines.

02

Drain the Backflow

Open the drain at the bottom of the backflow to help clear standing water before the blow-out.
